During this 5-day program, children will learn about the history and stories associated with pirates and mermaids. Participants will learn about animals such as the manatees which were often mistaken for mermaids, the myths and truths about ocean exploring and so much more through stories, art and hand-on exploration. 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM    Bones and Fossils - Bones and Fossils
In this 4-week class, students will learn about fossils and make their own "imprint" fossil they will take home.  They will learn the various ways to separate soil to find various fossils.  They will dissect an owl pellet and learn about basic bones and anatomy.  They will also create a "dinosaur" bone replica.Ages: 6-12Dates: Mondays, May 11th, May 18th, June 1st, June 8thTime: 4:00-5:30pmLocation: Salem Community Life CenterInstructor: James Eric RogersCost: $85, includes all supplies  * This program is filled to capacity.

We are thrilled to be hosting another jigsaw competition event!Form a team of up to 4 people and race to complete a 500 piece puzzle.  Teams get to keep the puzzle that they create.  The winning team will win an additional 1000 piece puzzle to take home.Snacks and water will be provided, but feel free to bring your own snacks or dinner as well.Space is limited to 15 teams, so sign up early.  When registering, just register one team member's name.We will have a puzzle swap table, so feel free to bring some and take some!Date: Wednesday, June 10thTime: 6:00-8:00pmPlace: Salem Community Life Center, 401 Bridge St.Cost: $25.00 per team

Come join Salem’s own ukulele club! Ukulele Magic is made up of a fun group of enthusiastic people who enjoy playing and singing music. We also perform for a variety of Salem community events. Ukulele Magic members play songs they like, often choosing new songs and bringing new music to share. They play a variety of music that ranges from a beginner to a moderate level. New beginner members will need to learn basic chords in order to participate successfully. Join Salem Park, Recreation, and Community Services for Friday Field Trip Mania! Emails will be sent out prior to each field trip with specific details, but please plan on sending your child with a bag packed with a lunch, water, sunscreen, and a towel or something to sit on grass. Please make sure that your contact information (phone and email) is correct, as this is how we will be communicating times, changes, rain dates, etc. These trips are separate from our regular playground programs.
