Ocean Explorers: Seals vs Sharks - Ocean Explorers: Seals vs Sharks During this five day program, children will learn about sharks and seals within our ocean. They will discover why sharks are now omnipresent, shark and seal ecology and adaptations, life cycles, and so much more. We will discuss life in the oceans around us, the impact of climate change, and how to be good ocean stewards. Children will spend part of each day on the beach. Every program is multi-sensory and filled with a combination of hand-on nature exploration, science discoveries, physical movement, art and more.Instructor, KC Bloom is the coordinator of the Recreation Management concentration and a faculty member at Salem State University. KC has taught numerous nature related courses, worked in state parks and spends as much time in the woods or on the ocean as possible with her family.Children must turn 4 years old prior to the start of the program.Children should bring a snack, water bottle, bagged lunch each day.Because we are outdoors, we ask that you apply sunscreen prior to dropping your child off each morning. Ukulele Magic Club - Ukulele Magic Club - all four sessions in 2026 Come join Salem’s own ukulele club! Ukulele Magic is made up of a fun group of enthusiastic people who enjoy playing and singing music. We also perform for a variety of Salem community events. Ukulele Magic members play songs they like, often choosing new songs and bringing new music to share. They play a variety of music that ranges from a beginner to a moderate level. New beginner members will need to learn basic chords in order to participate successfully. Friday Field Trip Mania - Ipswich River Watershed Field Trip Join Salem Park, Recreation, and Community Services for Friday Field Trip Mania! Emails will be sent out prior to each field trip with specific details, but please plan on sending your child with a bag packed with a lunch, water, sunscreen, and a towel or something to sit on grass. Please make sure that your contact information (phone and email) is correct, as this is how we will be communicating times, changes, rain dates, etc. These trips are separate from our regular playground programs. Paddlers will learn basic paddle techniques, water safety and a few trick to impress their friends and parents while out on the water! We also focus on marine education while exploring tide pools and going on paddle adventures. We provide all the equipment (board, paddle). We have a 5:1 ratio of student to instructor.No paddle experience necessary. Paddlers must be able to swim without assistance and be comfortable paddling on the ocean in water that is at times over their heads. Paddlers are encouraged to bring their own U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket if possible. One will be provided if necessary.Due to the popularity of this program and demand for slots, we are limiting registration to 2 weeks of paddle. You may place your child on a wait list for an additional week if desired and as we get closer to the program date, we will draw off the wait list if there are any openings.We do this with the hopes that more children will get to experience the world of paddleboard. Ukulele Magic Club - Ukulele Magic Club - all four sessions in 2026 Come join Salem’s own ukulele club! Ukulele Magic is made up of a fun group of enthusiastic people who enjoy playing and singing music. We also perform for a variety of Salem community events. Ukulele Magic members play songs they like, often choosing new songs and bringing new music to share. They play a variety of music that ranges from a beginner to a moderate level. New beginner members will need to learn basic chords in order to participate successfully. Friday Field Trip Mania - Stone Zoo Field Trip Join Salem Park, Recreation, and Community Services for Friday Field Trip Mania! Emails will be sent out prior to each field trip with specific details, but please plan on sending your child with a bag packed with a lunch, water, sunscreen, and a towel or something to sit on grass. Please make sure that your contact information (phone and email) is correct, as this is how we will be communicating times, changes, rain dates, etc. These trips are separate from our regular playground programs. Registration for a Mon-Thurs playground program does not reserve a spot on the field trips. Wait list onlyJuly 10th: Ipswich River Watershed Association- We are lucky to be going back to the Ipswich River Watershed Association for a day of nature walks, environmental education, and, of course, kayaking on the Ipswich River! As we will be in the woods and on the water, please send your child in clothes/shoes that are OK getting a bit wet or dirty. Please note: Some paddle experience is recommended for this trip.
